Community Voices: Real Change Ahead

“If we lose Deep Ellum, there’s no entertainment district here in the city of Dallas.

So this is it, this is kind of last stand. We have got to make this work. We have got to figure this out.”

Allen Falkner

“Deep Ellum is on the brink of transformation, and I believe in the power of community to drive real change. Together, we can tackle the challenges we face and save our neighborhood.”

Business Owner & Employee Accountability

The businesses in Deep Ellum are the stewards of this neighborhood. If they break the law, ignore rules and regulations, and foster an environment that allows or promotes problematic behavior they are not part of the solution. The city and the community should hold them accountable.

Property Owner Responsibility

The landlords of Deep Ellum are the backbone of Deep Ellum. They oversee everything
from public safety to strategic planning and decide who leases property in our community. If any area of private property is a source of problematic behavior, they are
responsible. It’s up to the community to express any concerns to landowners, the City of Dallas, and the general public.

City of Dallas Enforcement

There are numerous laws, rules, and regulations in place to handle problematic behavior. The City has the oversight and power to enforce them. As with DPD, the City
has the ability to mitigate the current issues Deep Ellum is facing. The tools exist to solve many of Deep Ellum’s current problems. It’s time for the City to use them.

Security & Police: Prevention = Protection

When it comes to violence in the streets, officers are seen as our last line of defense. Although true, the issues of Deep Ellum are best solved through proactive solutions. Clearing loitering and ending group congregation will stop problems before they start. Strict adherence to the law will maintain public order. Issuing citations and making
arrests are the solutions. Zero tolerance means reduced crime and violence.
